Overview

Restoran Sate Kajang Hj Samuri Elmina Selatan stands as a beacon for satay lovers in Shah Alam, nestled within the bustling Elmina Selatan rest and service area. This spot offers a clean, spacious environment that is casual yet comfortable, perfect for families, travelers, and busy workers looking for a quick but satisfying meal.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly their satay—marinated meats grilled to juicy perfection. Selections range from tender chicken and beef to mutton, liver, fish, and gizzard, all skewered and charred just enough to capture smoky richness without overwhelming the natural flavors. The meat’s quality shines through, especially the beef tenderloin (daging batang pinang), known for its lean, succulent texture that locals and visitors alike praise. Accompanying these skewers is a thick, chunky peanut sauce, known for its balance of spice and sweetness, drawing many to return for that unmistaken Hj Samuri taste.

Beyond the satay, the popiah ayam bakar stands out, stuffed generously with satay meat. This twist on the traditional Malaysian spring roll offers a smoky, savory bite that complements the main dishes well. The menu also presents other regional favorites like mee goreng and nasi bekal, creating a well-rounded lineup that caters to varied palates.

Service here is swift, even when queues form during peak hours. Patrons note the attentive hospitality, especially the generous portions of fresh cucumber—an essential palate cleanser that refreshes between bites. While some have remarked on occasional shortages of onions or sambal, the overall experience remains positive, thanks in part to the extensive drink list that includes local favorites such as sirap bandung and kopi o ais, which perfectly accompany the meal.

The location within a rest stop means parking can be tight, and the non-satay options are a bit limited compared to larger branches, but the trade-off is a convenient destination for travelers craving authentic Malaysian satay. It is a no-frills haven for those who appreciate straightforward, well-executed grilled meat with authentic peanut sauce served in a relaxed setting.

For anyone visiting Malaysia or locals seeking a quick satay fix, Restoran Sate Kajang Hj Samuri Elmina Selatan is a must-try. It offers a satisfying blend of tradition, taste, and comfort that reflects the hallmark of satay cuisine in Kajang’s famed legacy.

Satay here is good. Meat is big and juicy and not too charred or fat. Sauce is very good. We always asked for additional cucumber and for a small payment we got very generous portion of fresh cucumbers. However the 2 times we came, they didn't have onions, and one time they didn't have sambal for the sauce. Being so popular I think they should make sure they are well stock up for dinner.

The satay is delicious as expected from sate hj samuri, hardly any fat so worth the price, we also did not have to wait long for the satay to be served, the place is quite spacious and comfortable. However compared to other hj samuri branch there is limited non satay menu. This might be because it is located at rnr and there are other stalls nearby with plenty of choices and you can sit anywhere and get food from different stalls. Also parking at this rnr Elmina arah selatan dan be limited.

A place for no frills meal. Simply satay or meat skewers and cube rice to go with peanut sauce. Their meat skewers are well marinated and grilled. Choice of chicken, beef, fish, mutton, liver and gizzard. Fresh cucumbers are included with the order or rice cube. There are options to add cucumbers or onions at extra cost. Spicy food lovers have the choice to add their special chilli paste into the thick chunky peanut sauce. There's a wide variety of drinks available as well.

Good sate. Okay price. If you’re visiting Malaysia, this sate restaurant is the one you must visit. Sate was good and thick. Peanut sauce was beautifully tasty. There’s a queue but it’s worth it. Impit is okay. The popiah is stuffed with sate meat. Very worth it at 80 cents.
